Today we have another special guest interview, this time from Jenny Rutterford who will be photographing our fair and make sure we capture the day in style! Find out more about her below…
“I am so excited to be photographing the Patcham Fairy Tale Fair! I met many of the artists at the Christmas Fair, and loved the quality and uniqueness of their work…”– Jenny
Tell us a bit about yourself and how you got into Photography?
I am Jenny, a wedding and lifestyle photographer living in Shoreham-by-Sea. I have loved photography since childhood, and after getting my first film camera, became hooked on the excitement of creating images that were special to me, from which I could relive events as I had experienced them. Years later, and with two children of my own, I decided to fulfill my dreams of capturing other people’s special memories. I still feel the same rush of excitement I felt as a child each time I am behind the camera.
What do you enjoy most about photography?
I love the creativity! For me, wedding photography is the most fun – one minute I am capturing the flower girls laughing together, the next, creating fine art images of the bride and groom in a beautiful setting. I love the trust people place in me to be a part of their day – not only as a photographer, but often as agony aunt, kids’ entertainer and even emergency seamstress! It’s a real people focused job, which I love. There is a big responsibility to capture every moment and every detail perfectly, and the buzz of adrenalin does not stop from the bridal preparations, until the last dance. It’s exhausting, but so very fun!
What inspires you?
It might sound bizarre for a wedding photographer, but I draw most of my inspiration from photographing landscapes. There is something magical about getting outside in beautiful light, and capturing a breathtaking view simply for pleasure. I head out with my tripod ‘just for fun’ at least once a week, finding inspiration in beautiful skies at sunrise, or crashing waves on the rocks (I feel very lucky to live near the sea). Social media is great, and I enjoy following the blogs of world class wedding and fine art photographers. But ultimately it is when I am outdoors in nature that I have my best ideas.
What are your plans/ ambitions for the future?
I have recently moved back to Sussex with my family, after five years living and photographing in Florida. We had an amazing adventure, and I was privileged to build up an extremely loyal client base, enjoying word of mouth referral for weddings and family portraits. It takes time to build this level of recognition, but I am committed to achieving this in the UK.
I am currently working towards professional membership of the Master Photographers’ Association, with the aim of achieving my wedding licentiate by the end of the year. In January, I also started a 52-week photographic blog for 2013, which is uniquely focused on images in and around Shoreham-by-Sea. This began as a fun project purely for my own inspiration, but is gaining readership, and generating other leads and enquiries. I’m not sure where I’ll be in 3 years time, but it’s exciting!
Are you looking forward to attending the fairy tale fair?
I am so excited to be photographing the Patcham Fairy Tale Fair! I met many of the artists at the Christmas Fair, and loved the quality and uniqueness of their work. I am planning to photograph in the morning, then return in the afternoon with my 8 year old daughter, who would absolutely love making something at one of the crafting workshops. It’s a great atmosphere, and a perfect mother-daughter day out!
