We’re pleased to welcome Mandy Hamson for the first time who will join us on Sunday 1st December at Worthing Charmandean and Sunday 8th December at Brighton Open Market. Find out more about her…
Please introduce yourself and your brand….
My name is Mandy Hamson, I’m a local artist based in Rustington. My brand is mostly decorative portraiture artworks following the enchanting stories of little girls within dreamy settings with a touch of nature.
I spend my spare time being creative at every opportunity with my little boy, producing new drawings and ideas in my sketchbook and exploring the wondrous world around us.
How would you describe your style and your creations?
My style is very detailed intricate pencil drawings. My subject matter consists mostly of portraits of little girls with animals and floral decoration all inspired by nature and the whimsical enchanting world of childhood and imagination.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I absolutely love getting lost in a drawing, starting a drawing and not knowing what it may look like. The journey of letting the pencil find it’s way around the paper is magical. Creating a scene and emotion in my drawings is what I strive to portray in my work and what I enjoy most about it.
What can we expect to find on your stall at So This is Christmas Worthing on Sunday 1st December? And are you looking forward to taking part?
At my stall there will mostly be framed, mounted and loose prints available. I will also have original artworks and some miniature original framed pieces for sale.
I’m very much looking forward to taking part in the Christmas fair, I really enjoy chatting to people and finding out what attracts them to certain pieces. I will also be working on a large drawing throughout the day.
Do you have a best seller?
Not really a best seller as each piece is usually quite personal to each individual. Any of my girl portraits with animals included are usually among the more popular.
Do you have any plans or ambitions for the future?
I am always striving to improve my work and develop the never ending ideas that flow around my head. The struggle is to find the time to do it all and to focus on one thing. I would say at the forefront of my ambitions is developing some of my ideas into children’s books.
Do you have a motto or inspirational quote?
Every child is an artist, the problem is staying an artist when you grow up – Pablo Picasso
Creativity is contagious, pass it on! – Albert Einstein
