Every event we do is unique and we enjoy every moment from the first consultation to the final cake crumb! – Mayflower Events
Describe Mayflower Events and what it does?
Mayflower Events specialises in organising, styling and catering for tea parties, supplying beautiful vintage crockery, cakes and catering for weddings, engagement parties, hen parties and lots of other events plus we host pop-up tea rooms at various fairs throughout the South East. We are passionate about serving delicious, fresh, high quality food and providing each of our customers with a special, individual service.
How long has Mayflower events been formed?
Mayflower Events came into existence a couple of years ago after Lucy, Robyn and Harriet catered for one of their own weddings and had such a fabulous feedback, and so many requests to cater for family and friends, that they decided to set up a business doing the thing that they loved most – creating beautiful food.
What do you enjoy most about creating your events?
We enjoy taking on a concept and making it a reality. That may be a bride telling us what her dream wedding would involve and us helping make that happen, or fair organiser asking that we produce a pop-up vintage tea room and us brainstorming, researching and producing a fabulous tea room that exceeds everyone’s expectations. Every event we do is unique and we enjoy every moment from the first consultation to the final cake crumb!
Is there a part of your events that seems to be most popular with your clients/customers?
Our vintage china is always really popular with our clients – people love that we have such a wide range of beautiful, delicate china and other vintage accessories. We have the usual pretty vintage teacups & saucers, teapots, milk jugs and sugar bowls but also fabulous old fashioned vintage champagne glasses, stunning antique lace tablecloths, silver sugar tongs and the most amazing three-tier cake stands.
You make some wonderful cakes- have you always liked baking yummy things?
We have all been baking from a young age, having been taught the tricks of the trade by our grandmother who was a fabulous cook – her Bakewell tart was out of this world. Many a Saturday afternoon was spent in our grandmother’s kitchen stood on stalls so we could reach the work surface making anything from sweet pastry to fairy cakes to apple pie.
Do you have a favourite/ best selling cake that you make? If so, what is it?
Our traditional lemon drizzle cake is always a winner – we often have people coming back for second and even thirds! It’s light, zesty, moist and very moorish. However, we like to do some alternatives like our chocolate and raspberry death by chocolate brownies, our caramel & pear cake or our gluten free venetian carrot cake. Each time we do another fair we are amazed (and pleased) by how quickly we sell out.
What is your biggest achievement to date?
We are very proud of our most recent pop-up tea room at Lace & Tweed in Guildford ~ everyone loved the set-up of the tea room with little details such a beautiful vintage lace tablecloths, bunting, kilner jars with wildflowers, vintage teacups and saucers, tea & coffee served from teapots and we had a delicious range of homemade classic cakes and bakes such as Granny’s Victoria sponge, coffee & walnut cake, lemon drizzle, afternoon tea with homemade scones, flapjacks and much more.
Do you take part in other fairs/ markets/ events?
Yes, Mayflower Events is taking part in a number of other fairs and markets over the Summer including The Vintage Wedding Fair in Brighton and a few others to be announced over the next few weeks.
What will you be selling at The Fairy Tale Fair?
There will be a wonderful selection of homemade cakes, other sweet treats and refreshments including yummy cupcakes (vanilla & strawberry, chocolate & raspberry, banana & white chocolate – we may even do some unusual combinations like Earl grey & lemon or green tea!), sticky chocolate brownies, chewy flapjacks and crunchy biscuit cake.
What are your ambitions/ goals for the future? Or have you already achieved them?
We are always working on new reciepes (or tweaking and improving existing ones!) and coming up with new menu ideas to provide our customers with exciting, tasty and wholesome food. When we aren’t working on that we are adding to our collection of beautiful china and sourcing new vintage accessories to compliment the china. Our goal is to continue to make out customers happy by what we do, and to continue to get as much enjoyment out of what we to too!
