Today we welcome back Vicky of Vicky’s World. Vicky is an established illustrator based in Brighton and you may recognise her work as it features on our Christmas Easter and Brighton Fringe flyers! Find out more about her and her illustrations. You can meet her in person at our Brighton Open Market fair on 26th November.
Please introduce yourself and your brand….
Hello I’m Vicky and I am the collage artist/ illustrator behind Vickysworld. It seems pretty apt that my designs go under Vickysworld, as I feel like my I’ve created my own little (very colourful) universe made almost entirely from paper, for the characters in my designs to live in. When I’m not cutting things out of paper I can be found exploring parks, swimming, and spending time with my 2 string obsessed cats.
How would you describe your style and your creations?
Whimsical, playful, uplifting, brightly coloured, Art- Deco meets 60’s psychedelic at Studio 54 inspired illustrations. May contain at least 1 animal hiding somewhere in each illustration.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
Seeing an idea which has only existed in my head, come to life. When I see them printed somewhere (like on the Fairytale Fair posters for example) it’s even more exciting!
What can we expect to find on your stall at The Fairy Tale Fair Christmas Special at Brighton Open Market on Sunday 26th November? And are you looking forward to taking part?
Some brand new products- yey! A Space cat themed print, some William Morris inspired patterned coasters, brand new Christmas wrapping paper and my first ever pin! Of course, it’s always such a fun day and the other sellers are fab. Only trouble is I have to try not to spend too much….
Do you have a best seller?
It changes all the time! I think Brighton in Bloom and my Brighton and Hove Map have been popular in the last year or so, (Brightonians do like their home city) but equally anything with a cat on it too.
Do you have any plans or ambitions for the future?
I want to paint another giant animal! I love working big every so often, it’s pretty freeing and makes you feel good too as they are for charity. I’ve painted murals on models of elephants, bears, eggs and owls all for charity. A cat would be amazing if there’s ever a trail featuring cats…I’d also really like to illustrate a children’s fiction book cover as these had such an impact on me as a kid.
Do you have a motto or inspirational quote?
Sadly not, I’m quite forgetful so it I ever did find a quote I felt summed me up, I’d probably um forget it!
Describe your Christmas in 3 words…
Eaten. Too. Much.
